Spectacle: A New Cosmic Mix: Now in 5D! (second set)

What are boundaries in art? In culture? In the world of the Internet, turntables, midi controllers, iPads, and Photoshop, which grow exponentially more sophisticated every day, what does it mean to identify a genre, a space or even a person? If you can drop dubstep into your hip-hop, and both of those into your house track, and then transform all of that into a torch song, what boundaries are left that cannot be traversed? Look around you. Read the news. It would seem that the answer is “few, if any.”

Though many have seen the ever-accelerating assimilation of technology, communication, and with it, the blending of formerly discrete spaces as a sure sign of the apocalypse – a vision in which we are not able to cope with the flood of information – others see it as Utopia. After all, without boundaries, there can be no exclusion, no discrimination, and no distinction between self and other.

A New Cosmic Mix approaches these questions with live sound and visual art, providing a temporary space in which the audience can reconsider themselves and the world around them. It's a collaboration of HEXbeam by Vela Phelan, LOOSE by D’hana Perry, BATHAUS, Bobby Andres and a video transmission with Yassy Goldie. Expect to re-think your place in the universe, and expect it to be beautiful.
